Read Books About Irish and St. Patrick’s Day

The first thing you’ll want to do is read some books about Ireland, such as “Maggie’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade” by Dee Lillegard or “Lucky Leprechaun!” by Tori Kosara (both available at Amazon). This is a great way to add to your St. Patrick’s Day lesson plans with stories and learn about Irish history.

After reading, talk about what you learned and ask your preschoolers some questions like:

- What is Ireland famous for?

- Why do people celebrate St. Patrick’s Day?

- What color is the Irish flag?

- Do they have leprechauns in Ireland? If so, what do they look like?

You can find tons of free (and paid for) St Patrick’s Day preschool activities and games to play that does and doesn’t include papers or worksheets. I hope these games will get your started, though.

Play “Pin the Pot of Gold on The Rainbow”:

You’ll need just a few supplies for this game: green paper (or construction paper), black marker, tape or sticky tack to hold up the rainbow poster and a blindfold: You can also just use a green marker to draw the rainbow if you don’t have one already.

Step One: Cut out your shamrock shapes from paper, and write numbers on them (one through six).

Step Two: Using black marker, draw the outline of a rainbow on poster board or construction paper.

Step Three: Tape or sticky tack the rainbow poster to a wall.

Step Four: Blindfold one player and spin them around a few times.

Step Five: Have them try to pin the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!
